GARDEN THOUGHTS

Garden Thoughts are simply my own musings and wanderings I’ve had while watering our summer garden.

2. Timing

Pandemic Time. Apparently, that’s a thing. As strange as it is to feel time’s relativity shift globally and within our own little worlds, my experience of time doubled. (ha!)

Without going into a long sobering dog story that would make a great country song, I’m administering eye medications to my old pup. A LOT. She gets 3 different treatments every 2 hours, spread 5 minutes out between them. Plus a 4th med 3x a day. And I am on week 6. Day 47.

So as the internal hours and days absorb into one another during a time when calendars don’t help with anything, I am ever aware of the external clock, ticking away seconds on my phone’s timer. 5:00 minute countdown, repeat, repeat. And for fun, I set 8 separate alarms, 2 hours apart. What the blurg?

I recently decided to set my alarm sound to a “Mom! Mommy! Mama!” Stewie ringtone. Now I grin as the timer goes off, picturing my old pup and young puppy’s faces happy to see me again, smacking into each other with their cones. (They both have the cones of shame on since we also just had our new pup neutered. Party in the Cones!)

Anyway, timing. I was watering the garden today and listening to a soothing guided meditation, even though I wasn’t laying down with my eyes closed. And I was nearing the end of the guide, when you open your eyes and take deeeeep refreshing breaths and just eeeease into your beautiful surroundings-

“Mom! Mommy! Mama! Mamaaaaa!” HA! I laughed aloud and grinned as Stewie’s voice yelled in my headphones as I went to grab the meds. I let him shout until I gave her the eyedrops and reset the timer for another 5 minutes. When the audio automatically went back to the meditation guide, the voice had only one word left to say.

“Namaste.”
